			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition <a href="http://www.barillacfn.com/it/">BCNF</a> also this year, for the third, time organised the International Forum on Food and Nutrition at Bocconi University on Nov 30th and Dec 1st, 2011. High level speakers from all the world met to make the point on the issue of sustainability of the food production. To give you the flavour of the issues raised, a couple of pills of information are the following:<br />
- The current world paradox: one billion people are starving, another billion people are obese. Often both phenomena coexist in the same communities. A reason is that current food products are mainly “nutritionally unsustainable” because providing “empty” calories.<br />
- Access to food is easy, to nutrition is harder. Price of junk foods increased of 30% in the last 30 years; the price of fresh fruits of 120%. You can access soft drinks anywhere in the world, but fresh fruit and vegetable not.<br />
- In the US a total of about 70% of the harvested mais goes to non-human food uses (61% feed to animals and 39% to biofuel). No wander that prices of food staples rose of 40% in the last 20 years.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Interactive conference of a decade of EU-funded research into food integrity.</strong><br />
<em>International conference held on the 20 September 2011 at the European Parliament, Charlemagne Building, Brussels.</em><br />
Several TRACEBACK project partners partecipated as speakers (University of Parma, Ainia, Parmalat) in the session chaired by Tecnoalimenti.</p>
<p>Food integrity is becoming increasingly important; authenticity, origin of food, geographical location (terroir), traceability and security and safety of food production requires new diagnostic tools and implementation of new information systems.</p>
<p>The What&#8217;s for Lunch conference is an event focused upon parliamentary decision makers and it is organised by the coordinators of 8-10 major European research projects which include some of the world&#8217;s largest food safety research projects in the areas of microbiology, chemistry and food production technologies. It is worth recalling that at the begining of the last decade the European Parliament specifically requested that the Sixth Framework Programme dedicate part of the specific programme budget to food traceability and integrity. The event will demonstrate what has been done in this respect and what has still to be done to ensure proper food chain integrity and food security. </p>
<p>Thanks to the insights acquired coordinating the Integrated Project TRACEBACK, Tecnoalimenti chaired the session about Traceability of Quality parameters. <p>La ricerca ha ormai dimostrato che la dieta è uno dei fattori in grado di incidere direttamente sulla qualità della vita contribuendo alla prevenzione dell’insorgenza di malattie e alla promozione della salute. Su questo fronte si aprono grandi sfide e nuove opportunità per l’industria alimentare e degli ingredienti che vogliono aprirsi verso la realizzazione di prodotti funzionali.</p>
<p>La conferenza affronta il tema degli alimenti funzionali esplorando contesti innovativi sia sotto il profilo dell’identificazione di componenti alimentari biologicamente attivi, sia sotto il profilo delle tecnologie a supporto dell’ottenimento dei principi attivi e della loro veicolazione ai fini della formulazione dei prodotti funzionali e punta a mettere in luce le opportunità che questi prodotti offrono alle imprese alimentari e di ingredienti e alle difficoltà e criticità che le stesse imprese devono affrontare anche sotto il profilo normativo.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Il 13 luglio  scorso, presso l’<em>Area Science Park</em> di  Trieste si è conclusa la <strong>Summer School  2011 </strong>organizzata da CBM. Una tavola rotonda guidata da Confindustria e a cui  hanno preso parte 5 imprese friulane all’avanguardia, nonché Marianna Faraldi di  Tecnoalimenti, ha chiuso la kermesse di tre giorni che ha riscosso un notevole  successo. “<em>Active and healthy  Ageing</em>”: questa la tematica che ha guidato l’iniziativa. Personaggi di  spicco sia nel Comitato che tra i relatori, provenienti da tutta Europa nonché  dagli USA, hanno intrattenuto gli oltre 100 partecipanti in un evento dinamico  che ha visto non solo presentazioni scientifiche ma anche interventi di  approfondimento. Tecnoalimenti è stata invitata dagli organizzatori a presentare  le proprie esperienze in ricerca maturate sulla tematica <em>ageing</em> e  alimentazione, nonché a portare la propria esperienza in prima linea in merito  alla collaborazione tra aziende private e gruppi di ricerca.</p>
