iFOOD proposal submitted to the European FP7 KBBE call.

Tecnoalimenti has recently submitted a large new project proposal to the KBBE call in  FP7 of the European Commission, titled: “Reliable verification of added-value quality and authenticity attributes in food(iFOOD). The objective of iFOOD is to develop the EU Gold Standard protocol for food quality and authenticity (Q&At) assurance.

A core group of scientists and industries intensively involved in diverse FP6 projects have come together to form the iFOOD project in order to define, develop, deploy, and field test a novel infrastructure that is capable of verifying food quality and authenticity attributes against label claims to provide evidence to consumers, regulators, food chain players and any other stakeholders. This is a truly novel and world-first undertaking which synergises all the information and systems developed to date under FP projects (particularly FP6) to the world’s first platform delivering comprehensive EU food Q&At assurance.

iFood is a ca. €12 million 4-year project, with 22 partners (9 European, including Switzerland, plus China) – mainly ex FP teams including universities, research institutes, industry (large & SMEs) and a communications-dissemination partner. The iFood Team includes China, because the EU citizen is very concerned about third country imports. The iFood Team will expand through the launch of competitive Calls for recruiting additional partners as needed, within the framework of the project.
