The food industry requires more and more insistently to be able to use methods that are able to investigate the simultaneous presence of several micro-organisms in food and processing environments, shorter times, in order to ensure the hygienic safety of their food products.
The LOCSENS project had as a general objective the research and development of a prototype device, as an “electronic microbiological swab”, which integrates a diagnostic platform based on microarray technology with a spintronic sensor for the detection of the concentration of pathogenic organisms. The new detection system proposed therein refers to a fast and efficient method (also in terms of usability), whose quick response is critical to the operational advantage in production / processing processes in the agri-food context.
